Silly Heart Head
You're sure to get a big smile and a lot of silly behavior when you finish these little headbands. Kids just can't help but act silly when they slip one of these on... Then they look at themselves in the mirror and see how silly these headbands really are.
What You'll Need:
- 1 plastic headband
- 2 - 12 inch pipe cleaners
- Pencil
- 4 adhesive backed foam hearts that are the same size
What to Do:
1. Twist one end of one pipe cleaner around the plastic headband the same way you would use a twist-tie. The pipe cleaner should be about 2 inches off center. Twist the pipe cleaner around the headband tightly so that it will stand up on it's own. Do the same with the other pipe cleaner -- about 2 inches off center on the other side.
2. Peel the paper off of one of your hearts and lay the end of a pipe cleaner through the middle of the heart on the sticky side. Peel the paper off an identical size of heart and place it over the first heart. Press the two hearts together to sandwich the pipe cleaner in between them. Do the same on the other side with the other pipe cleaner.
3. Wrap the pipe cleaner around a pencil to create a "spring" looking heart coming out of the pipe cleaner.
Note: If you can't find adhesive backed foam hearts, you can cut your own foam hearts and use hot glue set on a low temperature to stick them to the pipe cleaners.
Variations:
If you want to make this craft more elaborate, you can decorate your headband with other things like glitter, more hearts, bells, etc.
We used a thin plastic headband for our project -- We were able to purchase a set of 10 for about $2. You can use other types of headbands if you want, but I'd stick with something stiff.
If you don't want to use foam, you can always make these out of construction paper.
