Painted Plastic Ornament
This ornament may look complicated, but it's really easy and a lot of fun! The project sheet comes complete with a pattern and before and after shots of the plastic. This would make a great group project or gift.
You'll Need:
- The printed pattern below
- Frosted Ruff N' Ready Shrinky Dink Sheet
- Colored pencils
- Hole punch
- Scissors
- Cookie sheet
- Paper bag
- Oven
What to Do:
1. Print out the pattern below. Trace the pattern onto the rough side of the shrinky dink material with a black colored pencil.
2. Color the pattern any way you desire with the colored pencils. Be sure to only color the rough side of the sheet.
3. Cut out the design. Use the hole punch to create a hanger hole in the top. It will look similar to the picture below before you shrink it.
4. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Cut out a piece of brown paper bag to line your cookie sheet. Place the cut out design on the cookie sheet, on top of the brown paper, with the colored side facing up. Bake in the oven 1-3 minutes. The shrinky dink with curl up and then flatten out. Bake about 30 seconds longer after it flattens back out, then remove it from the oven and let cool.
Hint: If the shrinky dink curls up and sticks together, simply remove it from the oven and use toothpicks to uncurl it. Put it back in the oven to finish cooking. You may want to press the ornament lightly with a piece of brown paper to make sure it cools completely flat.
