Mini Stovepipe Hat

This mini stovepipe hat looks just like the one that President Lincoln wore and it's really simple to make.

What You'll Need:

  • Empty black film canister
  • Small piece black fun foam
  • Scissors

What to Do:

1. Trace around the bottom of the film canister onto the black foam.

2. Draw a second ring outside the first one, making it about half an inch away.

3. Cut out the outer circle, then cut the inner circle to make a ring.

4. Take the lid off of the film canister. Put the foam ring over the closed end of the film canister and scoot it down to the open end. The foam will stretch slightly if necessary. Make the ring stick out from the canister to form the brim of the hat.

That's it!

Notes...

  • If you want to do this with very young children, you may want to at least cut out the center of the foam ring for them and then leave the outside for them to cut.

  • You can use paper for this project if you don't want to use foam.

  • You can also find a circle shape that's the right size for the canister to use to trace the outside of the ring. Then simply cut it out and glue the canister in the middle to make the hat without an opening. Very young children will be happy with this method because they can do the project without very much help.

Everyone knows something about something...
You can turn that knowledge into a profitable internet business.

That's what I did with children's crafts and here's what I used!
