Love Is Patient Stone

This painted slate is really easy to do and makes a great gift. The slate is fairly inexpensive and makes a great project to do with older children or even as a special project with a scouting group. It's the kind of craft that parents will keep and hang up all year long!

What You'll Need:

  • Large heart shaped slate plaque (available at most craft stores)
  • Red and light pink acrylic paint
  • Glitter acrylic paint
  • Acrylic spray sealer
  • Permanent Black Marker
  • Makeup sponge (or a natural sponge)

What to Do:

1. Remove the leather hanger from the slate and carefully wash it in soapy water. Don't scrub it. Scrubbing will make the edges of the stone start to chip off. Dry the stone completely before starting to paint.

2. The manufacturer recommends spraying the slate with sealer before painting. I always omit this step when I work with slate because I like the way the stone takes the color without the sealer. If you want a more solid color on your slate, then use the sealer first. If you like it more muted, then wait to seal it until you're done.

The first step is to use your sponge and lightly stamp the entire surface of the slate with the light pink acrylic paint. When that's done, don't bother to clean the sponge, just pick up the red paint and stamp around the outside edge of the slate and blend it into the lighter color.

When that's done, put a light layer of glitter paint on top of the red to make the paint sparkle. Let all the paint dry.

3. Write the passage from the Bible below onto your slate in black permanent marker. You can use black paint for this, but the marker will give you more control and work just as well. Above is a closeup of how the marker looks (Excuse my poor handwriting!).

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not selfseeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

1 Corinthians 13

4. When you're done writing the passage, spray the entire stone with acrylic sealer to keep the paint from coming off. When the sealer is dry, put the leather hanger back in place.

Everyone knows something about something...
You can turn that knowledge into a profitable internet business.

That's what I did with children's crafts and here's what I used!
