Kid Mother's Day Craft Ideas

Guess How Much I Love You Card - This is a very simple card to make that is guaranteed to get a big smile from Mom. My daughter brought one of these home to me when she was two and I keep it in my scrapbook.

You'll need 2 sheets of construction paper, a pencil, glue stick, and scissors. Trace each of the child's hands onto one of the sheets of construction paper. Cut out. Fold the second sheet of construction paper in half like a card. On the outside of the card write, "Guess How Much I Love You..." Glue each of the hands to the inside of the card so that they are facing out. Between the hands write, "I Love You This Much!" Happy Mother's Day! I made a template for the card, so all you have to do is cut out the hands, print out both sides of the template, color and put together.

Kisses Book - Staple together about 10 sheets of paper measuring about 4 - 5 inches square. Make all the pieces the same size. Staple together on one side. The top sheet of paper will be booklet's cover. Write "Book of Kisses" on the cover sheet and decorate with markers, stickers, crayons, etc. Put red lipstick on the child and have them "kiss" each of the sheets of paper (except the cover) to make a kisses book. They can give it to Mom and she can use it to redeem kisses any time she wants.

Mother's Day Flower - Cut out a flower stem and leaves from green construction paper and cut out a heart from red. Glue the stem and leaves to a sheet of construction paper (any color you want). Glue the heart to the top of the stem. Dip child's hand in any flower colored tempera paint and stamp onto a sheet of construction paper at the top of the heart. Write the following poem beside the flower.

A Piece of Me I Give to You

I painted this flower to say "I love you."
The heart is you.
The hand is me.
To show we are friends,
The best there can be.

I hope you will save it
And look back someday
At the flower we shared
On your special day.

Salt Dough Handprint Plaque - Make a batch of salt dough (the recipe is below). Break off a piece of dough that's a little bigger than the child's fist. Roll it out flat and make it any shape you want. Place the child's hand in the middle of the rolled out dough and press it into the dough to make an impression. Press a paper clip into the top of the dough to make a hanger. Let the dough air dry or place it in a 300º oven 30 minutes to an hour, or until dry. Once dry, paint it any color you want. String a nice ribbon through the paper clip and tie it to make a nice hanger.

Salt Dough Recipe

Mix 1 1/2 Cups of salt and 4 cups of flour in a large bowl. Gradually add about 1 1/2 Cups of water until the dough forms a ball around the spoon. (If you add too much water, just add a little more flour. If it’s too crumbly, add more water.) Dump the dough out onto a flat surface and knead it until it is pliable and easily formed.

Mother's Day Handprint and Poem - A sweet poem to give to Mom along with a handprint. I made a template for this craft to make it really easy to do. All you have to do is print out the template onto construction paper or cardstock and provide the handprint.

That's what I did with children's crafts and here's what I used!
