Kid Father's Day Craft Ideas
Handprint T-shirts
Basic Directions... - Put the t-shirt on a flat surface. Wash the child's hands and dry thoroughly. Place a piece of cardboard inside the t-shirt, between the two layers. The cardboard will protect the shirt from any paint bleeding through one side to the other and will provide a nice flat surface to stamp your hand or foot.
Paint the palm (or bottom of foot) of the child with fabric paint. Choose a spot on the shirt and press the child's hand onto the shirt. Make sure that all the fingers and the entire palm makes contact with the shirt. Hold the shirt down around your child's hand as you carefully lift it up.
Wash the child's hand immediately before the paint dries (or they touch something else). Let the hand or foot prints dry completely to complete your gift.
NOTES: Follow the paint manufacturer's directions for washing the garment. Some require that you wash the shirt inside out.
More Ideas...
Strong bright colors work well on any color T-shirt. Red, green, and blue are my personal favorites. You can also try to coordinate the color of the prints with the color of the words, make them all different colors, or even stamp all over with the same color.
My Kid(s) Walk All Over Me! - This saying is pre-printed on the front of a T-shirt (some options have other sayings on the back or "Father's Day 2003"). Then stamp your child's footprints all over the front and back of the shirt. For a neater look, stamp the child's footprints in a line across the shirt to make it look like the child literally walked across Dad. If you have more than one child working on the same gift, have each child choose a color and stamp their own line across Dad's shirt. (Make sure you have a bucket of warm water waiting to dip their feet into.)
This Dad Deserves A Pat On The Back! - This saying is pre-printed on the back of a T-shirt and "Father's Day 2003" is printed on the upper left hand corner of the front. This project works best if each child simply stamps one hand on either side of the words. Also a great project for multiple children.
Hands Down Best Dad! - This shirt is really the same as the one above, only a different saying. This one is also dated with "Father's Day 2003" underneath.
Add A Photo To Any Shirt - You can add a photo of your child to any T-shirt by using Inkjet Transfer Sheets. Simply print a picture or photograph onto the transfer sheet using an inkjet picture and then transfer it to the T-shirt with an iron. These are a great way to add a special touch to any of the shirts above!
Father's Day "Tie" - You could cut out a "tie" out of heavy paper and let the children glue paper scraps or put stickers on it. Write "Happy Daddy Day Love, Student Name." -- Submitted by JuLeeia
Car Card - Cut a simple car shape out of a folded piece of paper so that the roof of the car is on the fold. Use markers to make the car's windows, wheels, etc. ~ Submitted Anonymously
Salt Dough Handprint Plaque - Make a batch of salt dough (the recipe is below). Break off a piece of dough that's a little bigger than the child's fist. Roll it out flat and make it any shape you want. Place the child's hand in the middle of the rolled out dough and press it into the dough to make an impression. Press a paper clip into the top of the dough to make a hanger. Let the dough air dry or place it in a 300º oven 30 minutes to an hour, or until dry. Once dry, paint it any color you want. String a nice ribbon through the paper clip and tie it to make a nice hanger.
Salt Dough Recipe
Mix 1 1/2 Cups of salt and 4 cups of flour in a large bowl. Gradually add about 1 1/2 Cups of water until the dough forms a ball around the spoon. (If you add too much water, just add a little more flour. If it’s too crumbly, add more water.) Dump the dough out onto a flat surface and knead it until it is pliable and easily formed.
Pencil Holders - This is not a particularly new idea, but worth mentioning for Father's Day. You can use just about any kind of clean can to create a pencil holder for Dad. Paint popsicle sticks and glue them on, glue paper around the outside and decorate, put stickers on a can, glue macaroni around the outside, you can even glue sticks around the outside for a natural look. It all depends on the level of skill your child has and the amount of time and imagination you want to put into the project.
Boat Card - Cut the silhouette of a boat out and glue it to the front of the card. Glue pieces of blue tissue paper all around the boat to make water all around the boat. ~ Submitted anonymously
