Heart Hanger
This little Valentine hanger makes a great group project. Not only is it cute, but there's no wrong way to do it and there are a lot of ways you can customize it and make it unique for each child.
What You'll Need:
- 12 inches of 18 gauge wire (I used copper, but any wire will do)
- Assorted adhesive backed foam hearts
- 2 feet of yarn, ribbon, or string
- Scissors
- Needle nose pliers
What to Do:
1. Using the needle nose pliers, twist the wire into a clothes hanger shape. Refer to the illustrations below for help on this.

2. Cut your yarn in varying lengths ranging from about 18 inches to 10 inches. Fold each piece of yarn in half and loop it over the hanger. Refer to the illustration for clarification. I put a total of 7 pieces of yarn on the example above, but you can choose to put as many as you want.
3. Separate one piece of yarn from the others. Peel the paper off of one of your hearts and lay the end of the separate piece of yarn through the middle of the heart on the sticky side. Peel the paper off an identical size of heart and place it over the first heart. Press the two hearts together to sandwich the yarn in between them.
Note: Make sure the hearts line up as much as possible before you put the second heart on top of the first one.
4. This is the method you'll use for all the hearts. Make sure to put a set of hearts on the end of each of your pieces of yarn. Once that's done, randomly place hearts further up the yarn towards the hanger until you are satisified with your creation.
Variations
There are a lot of variations you can do on this basic idea.
Add beads or bells in between the foam hearts.
Stack the hearts on top of each other for a more complicated design.
Write "Be Mine," "Love," "My Love," or another loving saying on each heart with a permanent black marker. You could use the same phrases you'd find in a box of Valentine candy.
When you make your hanger, string beads or bells on it before you shape it.
