Finger Puppets

Kids absolutely love finger puppets... at least mine do. Below you'll find several different printable designs for finger puppets. In other words, all you have to do is print out the pattern, color, cut out, and assemble.

Don't limit yourself to just the patterns below, let your kids get creative and make up their own finger puppets out of materials they have around the house. You'll be surprised at the finger puppets that they'll come up with!

The cups from egg cartons, paper cups, paper bowls, popsicle sticks, pencils, and plastic spoons all make a great start for a finger puppet. Then all you have to do is give it a little character with scraps of felt, yarn, material, fun foam, paper, buttons, etc.

When they're all done, help them put on a play with their new creations!

Printable Finger Puppets

Number Finger Puppets - This is a great way to help children recognize the numbers and count them on their fingers.

Disney Lion King Finger Puppets - Print out the color templates, cut them out, and glue or tape the ends together. Disney also has Winnie the Pooh and Beauty and the Beast.

Town Mouse and Country Mouse - Like most of the others, print, cut out, and glue the ends together. These are from Jan Brett's Book.

Simple Finger Puppets - Print the template, color and cut out. These are the kind of finger puppets where you stick your fingers through the holes to make the legs. This page contains a couple of dinosaurs, elephant, and some nursery rhyme figures.

Lion Finger Puppet - Simply print out the puppet parts and assemble according to the directions.

Rooster Finger Puppet - Print out all the rooster parts. Color and cut out. Glue together according to the directions.

Pig Finger Puppet - Print out the puppet parts on pink paper. Cut out and glue together according to the direction on the template. Cut a long strip of paper and curl around a pencil to make a cute pig tail.

Halloween Finger Puppets - Templates and instructions to make a ghost, cat, pumpkin, and witch finger puppet out of scraps of felt. The templates are in color, so you can also adapt them to make paper puppets. Print the template, cut it out, and glue a strip of paper around the back to go over finger.

Bear Finger Puppet - Simply print out the puppet parts and assemble according to the directions. This pattern can be used for any kind of bear, ie. polar bear, brown bear, panda bear. Just change the color of the paper or how you color it.

Mouse Finger Puppet - Print the template out and color any way you want. Cut out all the pieces and glue together according to the directions. Draw on the face.

Puppy Finger Puppet - Print the template out and color any way you want. Cut out all the pieces and glue together according to the directions. This one is cute with wiggle eyes.

Cat Finger Puppet - Print out all the cat parts. Color and cut out. Glue together according to the directions. You could also use this for Halloween by making it a black cat and gluing wiggle eyes over the printed eyes (they won't show up on black paper anyway).

Rabbit Finger Puppet - Print the puppet template on white or pink paper. Cut out and glue together according to the direction on the template. Glue a cotton ball on the back for a tail.

Robin Finger Puppet - Print the template on brown or tan construction paper. Cut out all the pieces. Color the robin's breast red, pink, or orange. Glue together according to the direction on the template.

Baby Chick Finger Puppet - Print the puppet template on yellow paper. Cut out and glue together according to the direction on the template. Glue a couple of feathers to the top of the head.

Felt Finger Puppets - Although these aren't exactly finger puppets, they are still a lot of fun for older kids to make. You'll find several designs for creating puppets made out of felt and dowels on this page and it includes patterns for a person, a bead headed puppet, a monkey, an elephant, and many others.

President’s Day Finger Puppets - These finger puppets are a little bit cheesy, but I guess they would be a fun craft for the holiday. I had to put them in the "older kids" category because they're made with coins... a choking hazzard for younger kids.

Finger Puppet Stage - This is a little too complicated for younger children to make by themselves, but it would be a fun platform for playing with their finger puppets when completed.
