Down by the Bay Theme

Below you will find some projects and activities centered around the children's song "Down by the Bay." This theme page is designed to be a one day theme for younger children... Kind of a mini-theme. Parents or caregivers, will find it easier to craft with their kids if they work around a central theme. Things will be more organized, and you won't have as much trouble coming up with ideas. In addition, you can plan out a few days ahead of time what you want to do with your child.

Down by the Bay

Down by the bay,
Where the watermelons grow
Back to my home
I dare not go
For if I do
My mother will say
"Did you ever see a bear
Combing his hair?"
Down by the bay.

Down by the bay
Where the watermelons grow
Back to my home
I dare not go
For if I do
My mother will say
"Did you ever see a bee
With a sunburned knee?"
Down by the bay.

Down by the bay
Where the watermelons grow
Back to my home
I dare not go
For if I do
My mother will say
"Did you ever see a moose
Kissing a goose?"
Down by the bay.

Down by the bay
Where the watermelons grow
Back to my home
I dare not go
For if I do
My mother will say
"Did you ever see a whale
With a polka dot tail?"
Down by the bay.

Other silly lines you can fill in:

Did you ever see a llama, wearing pink pajamas?
Did you ever see cat, wearing a hat?
Did you ever see a hare, brushing her hair?
Did you ever see a turtle, wearing a girdle?
Did you ever see a Fox, carrying a box?
Did you ever see a Mouse, sweeping her house?
Did you ever see a fly wearing a tie?
Did you ever see a goat sailing a boat?
Did you ever see a snake baking a cake?
Did you ever see a hog walking a dog?
Did you ever see a bat kissing a cat?

Theme Projects, Printables, and Recipes

Paper Bag Whale

Stuff a small paper bag with newspaper and seal it with a rubber band. The stuffed part will be the whale's body and the sealed end will be it's tail. Paint the bag what ever color you choose and let dry. Don't forget to put polka dots on his tail. Cut 2 circles out of black paper and glue on bag for whale's eyes. Cut a spout out of blue construction paper and glue on top (a spout is shaped like 2 capital J's back to back). Draw on the mouth with a black marker.

Paper Plate Watermelon

Cut a paper plate in half. Paint the outer rim of the plate green and the rest of the plate red. Let dry. Cut out several tear drop shapes from black construction paper to make seeds. Glue seeds onto plate.

Down by the Bay - Coloring page. Did you ever see a whale with a polka dot tail down by the bay?

Ocean Crackers

Tint some frosting blue and spread it on graham crackers.

Top your theme day off by reading a great book!

Everyone knows something about something...
You can turn that knowledge into a profitable internet business.

That's what I did with children's crafts and here's what I used!
