Composite Eggs
These eggs are super simple to make and they really take on a life of their own when younger children get involved. This is a great activity to provide a wide range of tactile experiences for little kids, and they'll be proud of their creations.
What You'll Need:
- Sheet of Construction Paper
- Paper Plate
- Tempera Paint
- Kitchen Sponge
- Scissors
- Decorating Items: feathers, buttons, yarn, ribbon, beads, felt, fabric, wallpaper, etc.
What to Do:
1. Cut your kitchen sponge into the shape of an egg. It's much easier to do this when it is dry.
2. Wet the sponge and wring out the excess water. Pour the colored tempera paint of your choice into a paper plate.
3. Dip the sponge into the paint, making sure that the entire egg shape has paint on it, then stamp it three times across the paper. Let dry... it should only take about 15 minutes or so.
4. Decorate each of the eggs. We went with the idea that each egg had to use different items than the others to make sure the materials were truly mixed up. The kids had a ball creating these!
Tips:
When assembling the lamb, it goes a lot faster for little ones to just hot glue the back and head onto the legs. That way they can get right to the cotton -- their favorite part!
We used a thick white paper plate to make the back and the head, that way we didn't have to paint them.
