Blue Toilet Paper Tube Castle Craft

by Chris
(Kentucky, USA)

I had so much fun making this toilet paper tube castle for my oldest daughter a couple of years ago. I originally planned for us to make it together, but I took over and did it all myself... ooops!

I collected toilet paper tubes and paper towel tubes for a couple of weeks to make this project. Some of the tubes were cut to make different levels and I cut squares out of the tops of the outside toilet paper tubes to give it a more castle-like appearance.

Then glued them together to make the basic castle shape using hot glue. The hot glue made it very sturdy, but you could easily use white glue and let it dry... I'm just not that patient.

Then I painted the entire castle with silver acrylic paint and then let it dry. Then I cut a sponge into a rectangle so that I could use it as a "brick" stamp. I stamped blue bricks all around the castle to give it a little texture. After that, I painted doors and windows with black paint.

Lastly, I cut several half circles out of dark blue construction paper. I rolled them up to make cones and glued them on top of the cental towers of the castle.

That's it!

This was really easy to make. I only wish I would have completed the castle scene by putting it on a platform and making trees and bushes around it, etc. My daughter was too anxious to get ahold of it and start playing with her Barbies in it. She played with it for several months before it was too torn up to use anymore.

I think this would make a great craft idea for kids who were a little older... Like tweanies.
