Baby Beluga Theme
Below you will find some projects and activities centered around the children's song "Baby Beluga." This theme page is designed to be a one day theme for younger children... Kind of a mini-theme. Parents or caregivers, will find it easier to craft with their kids if they work around a central theme. Things will be more organized, and you won't have as much trouble coming up with ideas. In addition, you can plan out a few days ahead of time what you want to do with your child.
My son really loved this song when he was 2, and would sing it constantly for a couple of weeks. He was very cute acting out each part of the song. That's what inspired this theme page. You can get a little learning in with this theme by talking about the ocean and what lives there. If you want to stretch this into an ocean theme, you can check out the ocean theme page I've put together to get some ideas.
Baby Beluga
Baby Beluga in the deep blue sea,
Swim so wild and you swim so free.
Heaven above, and the sea below,
And a little white whale on the go.
Baby beluga, baby Beluga, is the water warm?
Is your mama home with you, so happy.
Way down yonder where the dolphins play,
Where they dive and splash all day,
The waves roll in and the waves roll out,
See the water squirting out of your spout.
Baby beluga, baby Beluga, sing your little song,
Sing for all your friends, we like to hear you.
When it's dark, you're home and fed,
Curl up snug in your water bed.
Moon is shining and the stars are out,
Good night, little whale, goodnight.
Baby beluga, baby Beluga, with tomorrow's sun,
Another day’s begun, you'll soon be waking.
Baby Beluga in the deep blue sea,
Swim so wild and you swim so free.
Heaven above and the sea below,
And a little white whale on the go.
You’re just a little white whale on the go.
Theme Projects, Printables, and Recipes
Baby Beluga Puppet
Print out the Baby Beluga Puppet Template. Color the beluga whale. Fold on the dotted line. Cut out. Insert a craft stick up to the fold and perpendicular to the whale and glue in place. Glue the whale with wrong sides together.
Paper Bag Whale
Stuff a small paper bag with newspaper and seal it with a rubber band. The stuffed part will be the whale's body and the sealed end will be it's tail. Paint the bag what ever color you choose and let dry. Cut 2 circles out of black paper and glue on bag for whale's eyes. Cut a spout out of blue construction paper and glue on top (a spout is shaped like 2 capital J's back to back). Draw on the mouth with a black marker.
Baggie Ocean Scene
Open a ziplock bag and squirt some gel toothpaste inside. Remove as much air as possible and seal it. Move the toothpaste around inside the bag to coat the inside. Glue ocean shapes or stick stickers to the outside of the bag.
Lifesize Whale
Okay, it's not really lifesize, but it will feel that way to a child. Stuff a large plastic trash bag with newspaper. Tape the tail and shape it into a whale shape. Tape on a big construction paper circles for eyes. Cut out a mouth shape and tape that on too. You could also make this look like a killer whale by cutting out pieces of white construction paper and taping them on in the right pattern on a black bag.
Paint Baby Beluga's Home
While listening to the song, paint a water color picture of where baby beluga lives.
Ocean Crackers
Tint some frosting blue and spread it on graham crackers.
Top your theme day off by reading a great book!
