5 Little Monkeys
Below you will find some projects and activities centered around the children's song "5 Little Monkeys." This theme page is designed to be a one day theme for younger children... Kind of a mini-theme. Parents or caregivers, will find it easier to craft with their kids if they work around a central theme. Things will be more organized, and you won't have as much trouble coming up with ideas. In addition, you can plan out a few days ahead of time what you want to do with your child.

Theme Projects, Printables, and Recipes
Paper Plate Monkey
Supplies: A paper plate, brown paint, brown construction paper, tan construction paper, glue, and this template.
Directions: Paint your paper plate brown and let dry. Use the template below to cut out the ears and face of the monkey out of tan colored construction paper. (If you want, you could just paint on the face using the template.) Glue the ears onto the back of the paper plate and glue the face on the front. Use a marker to draw in the eyes, nose and mouth.
Textured Aligators
Use the alligator shape here and cut one out of heavy construction paper. Paint the alligator with green or brown paint and then sprinkle with sand, salt, or even glitter to add texture. You can glue on some wiggle eyes to create some very funny alligators.
Monkey Maze - Help the monkey find his bananas. He's hungry!
Monkey Treats
Slice a banana up into bite size slices and put a little bit of peanut butter on top of each slice. Serve them up on a plate for your little monkeys.
Aligator Skins
This is basically the Rice Krispies Treat recipe with corn flakes instead of Rice Krispies. The corn flakes make the treats look rough like alligator skin... especially if you play it up with your kids.
Ingredients: 3 tablespoons margarine or butter, 1 package (10 oz., about 40) regular marshmallows or 4 cups miniature marshmallows, 6 cups corn flakes cereal
Directions: In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt margarine and marshmallows on HIGH for 2 minutes, stirring after 1 minute. Stir mixture until smooth. Add a few drops of green food coloring and mix up. Add cornflakes cereal, stirring until well coated. When slightly cooled, shape cereal mixture into desired shape using buttered hands, or lay out flat on waxed paper. Allow to cool.
